North/South Rail
After the idea of utilizing tunnels, merging the East/West High-Speed Rail project with the North/South Rail Project is the most important part of realizing both projects.
The TMT is a natural tie into the North/South Rail Project. By constructing them at the same time huge savings are accrued.
While the North/South Rail Project benefits only the eastern part of the state the cost would be borne by all the Commonwealth’s citizens. The Alternative 7 East/West High-Speed rail project is just the opposite. Put them together and the whole State shares the benefits and the costs. Coupled with rejuvenation of the existing transit system, these projects would not only propel the Commonwealth to the front of the nation’s transportation systems, but most systems of the world.
Among other things, the projects would share:
Project mobilization cost
Tunnel boring machine costs
Engineering costs
Design costs
Worker training costs
Administration costs
Disposal of tunnel spoils cost
Political credit/cost
